About UsLocated in the Englewood area of Chicago, IL, The Hermitage Street Community Garden, has been open since 2011. We are providing low income families with garden space to harvest fresh produce in an area that is considered a “fresh food desert”. To support and sustain healthy families in a fresh food desert community this garden was started to grow fresh produce residents involved in the project. The garden also has a produce donation program devoted to providing produce to seniors, veterans and homeless residents. We believe that gardening is not just about what you plant, but what you grow. Growing food is an important aspect of the garden but it entails much more. We grow relationships, friendships and communities. We are creating a safe haven for both individuals and families in a part of the city where many people struggle to spend time with their families outdoors.

Our History |
The Hermitage Street Community Garden was created by Englewood resident Cordia Pugh. With an affinity for gardening in her own backyard she took her passion outside of her gates to share with others with the neighborhood. Starting with only 38 raised bed in 2011, we now have 4 vacant city lots, 80 raised beds, and 60-80 gardeners. Always seeking to expand and improve we are looking forward to the 2016 growing year!
